Maine Drug Enforcement Agents, along with local law enforcement partners, made two arrests and seized a total of more than four pounds of cocaine from a car on I-295 in Gardiner. Agents believe the drugs were being transported into Maine to be distributed throughout Kennebec and Somerset Counties.
Chelsy Cochran, 33, of Winslow and John Cedeno, 25, from New York City have been arrested in Gardiner following the discovery of a significant amount of cocaine in their vehicle.
More than two pounds of the cocaine was being disguised as cake. The cocaine was wrapped in cellophane with coffee grounds sprinkled on top. Coffee grounds are often used by drug traffickers as a way to hide the scent of drugs from drug-detecting K9s.
Also seized was approximately $1900 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug sales. The street value of the cocaine seized is $200,000.
