The Rumford Police Department says a man is expected to survive after being shot by officers at the Sunvalley Circle Apartment complex in Mexico, yesterday, Aug. 30.

Shots were fired by two officers and an adult male was transported to the Rumford Hospital and later transferred by LifeFlight Central Maine Medical Center.

At approximately 3:41 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, Mexico and Rumford Police, along with Oxford County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an incident at the Sunvalley Circle Apartment complex at 23 Sunvalley Circle in Mexico.

Shots were fired by two officers and an adult male was transported to the Rumford Hospital by MedCare Ambulance personnel with gunshot wounds. The male was later transferred by LifeFlight helicopter to the Central Maine Medical Center to receive further treatment and is expected to survive. The identity of the subject involved is not being released at this time until family members can be notified.

Two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Attorney General’s Office. Those officers are Mexico Police Lieutenant Derek MacDonald and Rumford Police Patrolman Bradley Gallant.

Attorney General’s Office Investigators and Maine State Police Detectives are handling the investigation, as is standard procedure in Maine for any police-involved shootings.
