Friday, May 20, at 10:00 am at the Maine State House, NASA Astronaut Jessica Meir and NASA Spacewalk Engineer Derrick Porter, both Maine natives, will present Governor Janet Mills with a State of Maine flag that was flown on the International Space Station.
On behalf of the people of Maine, Governor Mills will accept the flag which will then be put on display at the Maine State Museum for the enjoyment of Maine people.
The flag was delivered to the NASA Johnson Space Center by Porter, of Cutler, and then flown aboard the International Space Station during Expeditions 61, 62, and 63, launching with astronaut Meir, of Caribou, in September of 2019, and returning with astronaut Chris Cassidy, of York, in October of 2020.
